Idle Chatter: Obama Owns Primetime, 'Esquire'

-Barack Obama bought a half-hour block of air in primetime on CBS and NBC. He'll use it for a special about how great he is that will run six days before the election. [THR]

-Univision wants to start charging cable operators to carry its programming. If other broadcasters follow suit, cablers are in big trouble. [WSJ]

-More than half the employees at the Newark-based Star-Ledger volunteered to accept a buyout; most of them will be turned down. [NYP]

-The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has lifted a ban on accepting movie ads during the Oscars. [AP]
