Update to the Update: 'Sun' to Shut Down

The New York Sun got a reprieve, but in the end it lasted but a single day. Michael Moi, spokesman for the six-year-old daily, says that tomorrow will be the paper's final issue. Whatever last-second negotiations were under way this morning, they evidently didn't produce the kind of new funding commitments necessary to keep going. It's been reported that the Sun was losing $1 million a month; I'm told by someone who has been briefed on the paper's finances that the figure has been considerably higher this year, with annual losses running around $20 million. □
