'NY Sun' Editor: I Think We'll Publish Tomorrow
Those obituaries you're reading for the New York Sun may be premature.
I just talked to vice president and managing editor Ira Stoll, who says the paper's fate is still up in the air. "I know it may be hard to believe, but actually the situation is as it was when we last talked," he said. "There's been no final decision made yet. We're still in active talks. There's really not much more to say."
Asked whether there will be a new edition of the Sun tomorrow, he said, "Ah...I think there will be."
But what about that email someone sent out to Sun freelancers letting them know the paper was finished?
"It's certainly possible that some low-ranking arts editor sent out that email," says Stoll. "But I didn't authorize it to be sent, and neither did [editor] Seth Lipsky, and neither did [deputy m.e.] Bob Asahina. It's a 100-employee organization. There's no way to control every email everyone sends.
"I'm one of the owners. The paper may be closing, but it may not be."
