Brauchli: This 'WaPo' Editor Plans to Vote

As executive editor of the Washington Post, Leonard Downie Jr. famously abstained from voting to preserve his objectivity; in fact, Downie now says he won't even vote in the upcoming presidential election simply because he doesn't "feel ready" after so many years of keeping his mind in neutral.

But what about his successor? I checked with Marcus Brauchli, who took over as executive editor earlier this month, to see if he plans to follow Downie's example. Brauchli's response: "I don't belong to a political party but do vote. Len's philosophy makes great sense, and I respect it, but I also believe that journalists should be able to make choices in all aspects of their private lives without those choices affecting the balance and fairness of their work.". □
