Idle Chatter: Bad Ad News, Train Trauma, more

-Ad spending fell 3.7 percent in the second quarter -- the biggest drop since 2001 -- according to ad-tracking firm TNS Media Intelligence. [Bloomberg]

-A Los Angeles TV station cut away from Late Night with Conan O'Brien when it aired a skit involving model trains crashing head-on. The station was worried it would remind viewers of the recent commuter-train collision. [NYP]
