McCain Pulls 'Lipstick' Ad in 9/11 Cease-Fire

The McCain campaign has a little 9/11 gift for Barack Obama: It appears to have taken down its controversial "Lipstick" ad.

Though the ad, which suggests (misleadingly, says Obama) that Obama was taking a shot at Republican running mate Sarah Palin when he described McCain's policies as "lipstick on a pig," is making plenty of headlines today, it's nowhere to be seen in the section of the campaign's website for TV and web ads.

Peter Feldman, a McCain spokesman, was not aware the ad had been removed, but said its absence reflected a commitment by the campaign to suspend attacks in observance of the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. "I would direct you to the joint statement that Senator Obama and Senator McCain made that today is not a day for partisanship, it's a day for remembrance," he said.

(Or maybe it was just the same copyright problem that caused YouTube to take the ad down?)
