Bill O'Reilly Resets the Shut Clock

Fox News's Bill O'Reilly, promoting his upcoming memoir in the new issue of Time, addresses his reputation for telling guests to "shut up" on the air. "I've said 'shut up' six times in 12 years, and they all deserved it," he says. "They were either bloviating, filibustering or lying."

Six times in 12 years? Are you sure about that number, Bill?

From Nexis:

Bill O'Reilly, Feb. 12, 2007: "[O]ur pals in the L.A. Times continue to print that I tell guests to shut up. That has happened in a serious way exactly four times in 10-and-a-half years."

Bill O'Reilly, June 29, 2006: "In the past 10 years 'The Factor' has been on the air, I've commanded someone to shut up five times. And they all deserved it."

Bill O'Reilly, Sept. 27, 2004: "Look, do you know how many times I said 'shut up' in six years on 'The Factor'? Six.". □
