Winkler's Profile Downsized at Bloomberg

Remember back in July when you read about how "the Bloomberg way" was being phased out and Matt Winkler, its chief architect, stripped of his influence by the new management team?

Well, it's official. Or more, official, at least. Talking Biz News reports that Winkler, Bloomberg's bowtie-favoring, tantrum-prone editor in chief, "is taking a step back from the day-to-day operations at the company." He shared the news with staff via his favored means of video announcement. The change means that Bloomberg's executive editors will have more authority to make coverage decisions.

The shake-up comes four months after Norman Pearlstine, formerly Time Inc.'s editor in chief, joined Bloomberg in the somewhat vaguely defined role of chief content officer. It also comes after a couple notable embarrassments for the Bloomberg News brand, those being the accidental publication of an obituary for non-dead Apple chief Steve Jobs and the dissemination over Bloomberg wires of a six-year-old story that sent UAL's stock price tumbling.
