Does David Brooks Know About Speechwriters?

Sometimes David Brooks can be a real idiot. Take the way he chooses to praise Sarah Palin's "smart and assertive speech" in today's column:

"[W]hat was most impressive was her speech's freshness. Her words flowed directly from her life experience, her poise and mannerisms from her town and its conversations."

That's funny, because I thought her words flowed directly from Bush speechwriter Matthew Scully, who penned them "over a week ago for an unknown male nominee," according to the Washington Post. On the other hand, her easy way with a Teleprompter -- now that's pure small-town Alaska. □
