Whoops! 'WSJ' Magazine in Debut Snafu
Despite yesterday's sneak preview, The Wall Street Journal's new luxury-lifestyle magazine won't make its real debut until Saturday. Unless, that is, you live in Chicago, where one distributor appears to have jumped the gun by sending out copies of the magazine two days early -- and, in at least one instance, in the wrong newspaper.
A Mixed Media reader wrote in this morning to say he opened his copy of The New York Times to find the premiere issue of WSJ* inserted into its pages. I ran this by a Dow Jones spokesman, who was able to confirm that the magazine had been prematurely distributed in the Chicago area, but only, as far as he knew, in copies of the Journal. (Anyone else get an early copy? Email me.)
In other WSJ news, another tipster points out that the magazine's editor, Tina Gaudoin, has been busy on the side: She is writing a book called Not Just Prada: Real Life Adventures in Magazines, scheduled for publication in the U.K. in June 2010. "Tina Gaudoin guides us through the ins and outs of the most glamorous and bitchy of industries - the politics, products and the personalites [sic]," reads the description on Amazon.com.uk. "Through Tina's story we meet the celebrated movers and shakers in the fashion industry and follow her back and forth across the Atlantic between London and New York as she lurches up the magazine career ladder."
I emailed Gaudoin to ask whether her experiences at WSJ will make it into the book but haven't heard back.
*As I said yesterday, it's actually called WSJ., but for the sake of simplicity and consistency I'm not going to bother with the period.
