Ad Review: Olympic Champs and Chumps
Stuart Elliott reviews all the commercials from the Beijing Olympics today and awards medals of gold (for the best ones), tin (for those that missed their marks) and lead (for the stinkers). Here's one of each.
This gold-medal spot for United was "superb," says Elliott:
This one, for AT&T, only rated tin because it reminded Elliott of that Yankees game where a swarm of flies descended on pitcher Joba Chamberlain. (Me, I get more of a Silence of the Lambs association.)
And this McDonald's commercial for its new Southern chicken sandwich annoyed Elliott (and mystified Slate's Josh Levin). Sorry I can't find a better version on YouTube:
