Update: Murdoch Not Behind 'WSJ' Veep Mix-Up

It looks like that faulty intelligence on Barack Obama's VP pick published by Dow Jones Newswires and featured, briefly, on WSJ.com didn't come from owner Rupert Murdoch. Here's a statement from a Dow Jones spokeswoman:

"The Journal news department was sent an erroneous announcement about the selection of a vice presidential candidate for Barack Obama. Once we realized the announcement was erroneous, we immediately withdrew the headline. We regret any inconvenience this caused our readers."

Inconvenience? Quite the opposite. On behalf of us bloggers, this was just what we needed on a slow news day.
