Rupe Duped by Kaine-for-VP Rumor?
Is Rupert Murdoch once again stove-piping bad tips to his editors? Earlier today, The Wall Street Journal reported on its website, ever so briefly, that Barack Obama had chosen Virginia governor Tim Kaine as his running mate. The report has since been retracted.
I've left several messages at the Journal in hopes of finding out what went wrong. But the episode is reminiscent of 2004, when the New York Post erroneously reported -- on its front page, no less -- that John Kerry had picked Richard Gephardt to be his vice presidential candidate. In that case, it turned out the bad information had come directly from Murdoch.
On the other hand, the Kaine rumor has been making the rounds.
