Late Breaks: Daniel Pearl, John Edwards, Gannett

-A college class is trying to identify all those responsible for the murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. Asra Q. Nomani, a former colleague of Pearl's, is leading the effort. [Marie Claire]

-The National Enquirer has reached a settlement with a woman it wrongly accused of having Ted Kennedy's love child. John Edwards is still in the doghouse, though. [BG]

-Speaking of Edwards, Sharon Waxman has a hunch that Rielle Hunter (or possibly a friend of hers) tipped off the Enquirer about their affair and pocketed the cash. And a hunch is almost better than proof, when you think about it. [Waxword]

-Gannett is eliminating 1,000 positions at its newspapers; 600 employees will be laid off. [Gannett Blog] -Fox News is going to air documentaries about Barack Obama and John McCain, specifically about their "character and conduct." [THR]. □
