From the Crack House to the Best Seller List

It seems like that mass email David Carr sent out asking people to buy his book did the trick. Or maybe it was his New York Times Magazine cover and excerpt, or that New York profile, or his Colbert Report appearance, or possibly Arianna Huffington's recycled endorsement. I could go on.

The point is, The Night of the Gun, Carr's impeccably promoted (and well-reviewed) memoir about his journey from girlfriend-slapping coke addict to New York Times media columnist and suburban dad, has made the Times's extended best seller list for Aug. 24. It comes in at No. 21 on the hardcover non-fiction list, right after Freakonomics and just ahead of Southern Storm.
