Sam Zell Protest Site Goes Dark. Coincidence?

Yesterday, The New York Times introduced readers to TellZell.com, an anonymously-written blog dedicated to dogging the missteps of Tribune Co. chairman Sam Zell.

Today, TellZell has been offline all afternoon. Did a certain someone take a break from adding sophomoric jokes to press releases long enough to have his IT guys mount a DOS attack? [Belated clarification, 7/23/08: This was meant to be a joke, and nothing more -- there was never any reason to think Tribune did, would or could interfere with an outside site. Pardon the lame attempt at humor.]

Well, no. TellZell's proprietor, a Los Angeles Times staffer who prefers only to be known as InkStainedRetch (although his or her emails are addressed from "Sam Izdat") says the site goes down quite often. Noting that it's hosted for free by Google Blogger, Retch adds, "You get what you pay for, I suppose."

Update, 5:35 p.m.
: A Tribune Co. spokesman confirms the company has nothing to do with it. Meanwhile, the site is still down. Get a new host, dude!
