'LA Times' Publisher Steps Down

That didn't take long. As rumored, David Hiller is out as publisher of the Los Angeles Times. He lasted just 21 months -- long enough to earn the nicknames "the class president" and "the cheerleader," neither a term of endearment.

A Times tipster says Hiller's management of the latest round of job cuts cost him what little goodwill he had left to draw on: "The paper has handled this as badly as they possibly could have done, with constant reminders that a bunch of people are going to get canned before they actually do it.". □
