Duly Quoted: Craig Newmark's 'Urban Myth'
MIXED MEDIA: It was just reported that this is likely to be the worst year ever for newspaper revenues. How about you do the newspaper industry a solid and shut down Craigslist?
CRAIG NEWMARK: I don't think that would help them out very much. We do have an effect on classified revenues, but the extent of it has been exaggerated. It's an urban myth. The bigger problems to classified revenues are the aggressive sites that go after car ads and job ads, because those sites have really aggressive salesmen. They'll call up people who put classified ads in papers.
Do you read any news newspapers in print?
I read the Times religiously.
