'WWD' Steps Into the Blog Age

Look who's blogging! It's WWD, the fashion and retail business must-read and a paper better known, until now, for its industry clout and storied history than for its digital innovation.

I told you a few weeks ago that WWD (where I worked for two years, and which is owned by the same company as Portfolio) is planning a big relaunch of its website, and it looks like one component, a staff-written blog, is already up and running in beta form here. Judging from the early entries, it will function, among other things, as a repository for juicy tidbits deemed unsuitable for the paper; one writer reveals how Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's publicist instructed her not to refer to them as "twins" or even "sisters" in her story. (She did anyway.)
