The Takeaway: Life After Tim
New York Times: "Anybody who thinks they can replace Tim Russert is kidding themselves," says NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker. Still, you have to try, starting with finding a new host for Meet the Press. Chances are Tom Brokaw will take over on an interim basis, with Brian Williams, David Gregory, Andrea Mitchell, Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Joe Scarborough all candidates for a permanent successor.
L.A. Times: Within that group, expect a "particularly intense" competition for the job between Gregory and Matthews, both of whom openly sought favor with Russert. As for Olbermann, he probably has no better than an outside chance "because of his open espousal of liberal viewpoints."
Marketwatch: Jon Friedman thinks Gregory ought to get it. Matthews, on the other hand, "would be a horrendous selection."
Wall Street Journal: Here's a nice tribute from a young journalist to whom Russert gave inspiration and career advice.
NY Post: Another tribute: Several New York politicians are proposing that a section of U.S. Route 20, which runs by the Buffalo Bills' stadium, be renamed in Russert's honor. □
