Going, Going, GONE! Deadspin Editor Quits
Another day, another exit at Gawker Media. Well-liked Deadspin editor Will Leitch is parting ways with the Gawker sports title.
"It is with heavy heart -- yet mirthful disposition! -- that we announce that our time as Deadspin editor is about to draw to a close," Leitch wrote today. "After almost three years of plugging away around here, we are leaving as editor of Deadspin on Friday, June 27."
And how's Gawker boss Nick Denton feel about it one of his most popular employees? "I'm trying to be pleased for Will!" he told Portfolio.com. "It's extraordinary for a 32-year-old writer to have a column alongside Heilemann, Cramer, Andersen."
Leitch has signed on with New York magazine as contributing editor.
"And I'm sure we'll use the example of Will's career trajectory in recruiting new writers to Gawker titles," Denton offered.
Leitch sounded somewhat melancholy. "We're excited about it," he wrote. "But, obviously, this has been our baby and our life every day for three years -- which is about four decades in blog time -- and we're too emotional about the whole thing to get into much more detail about how we feel about the whole matter."
