King of the Slate Empire

Jacob Weisberg, editor of the Washington Post Company's Slate.com, is being kicked upstairs to oversee the growing Slate empire.

His new title is chairman and editor in chief of The Slate Group, which besides Slate.com includes the all-video site Slate V, the black-oriented site TheRoot.com, and The Big Money, a business-oriented site now in development.

Weisberg's deputy at Slate, David Plotz, will succeed him at the helm of the flagship site.

"The choice of successor was an easy one," Weisberg says in a press release. "As I've been drawn more into new ventures, David has been assuming more and more control over Slate's daily operations. He is a brilliant journalist who has the respect and affection of everyone here. I know he is going to do a splendid job as editor."
