The New York Times Magazine's Bloglash

Thanks to an exhaustive, wildly self-indulgent cover story for The New York Times Magazine, readers probably know more about blogger Emily Gould than either her gynecologist or therapist do.

Oh, and the reactions? After a slew of expletives, one editor admitted he would rather slam his hand in car door than read the first-person tell-all about her life as a lover and blogger.

By Friday, The Times shut down the comments thread, topping out at 1,216 comments on her feature. Below, just a few gems:

"I'm a 56-year-old doctoral student at the University of Missouri. I would like to know why you'd put all of this effort into displaying your life online. Don't you have important things to do? Don't you have real issues to write about that might affect your generation and the country generally? I write every day, but I have no time to tell everyone about what I'm doing minute by minute. I'm not claiming that you're wrecking America, but I do think you're wasting your time."

And:

"I expect more from the New York Times. This article was nothing more than the ramblings of a moronic juvenile who calls herself a writer. I hope that the New York Times is not paying her for this piece. I long for the days when writers were people who had something to say."

Meanwhile, Google News is flooded with Gould goodies.
