Robert Thomson Named 'WSJ' Managing Editor

Rupert Murdoch has picked a new managing editor for The Wall Street Journal, and he didn't have to stray from his comfort zone to do it. Robert Thomson, the former Times of London editor whom Murdoch installed as publisher upon taking over Dow Jones in December, will replace Marcus Brauchli, who resigned last month after being told he was no longer wanted. Les Hinton, the Dow Jones CEO appointed in December, will add publisher of the Journal to his title; Thomson and Paul Gigot, the Journal's editorial-page editor, will report to him. □
