Report: 'Wall Street Journal' Editor to Quit

Marcus Brauchli, managing editor of The Wall Street Journal for the past year, is stepping down, according to Time. While that wouldn't have been a surprise a few months ago, amid reports that Rupert Murdoch intended to bring in his own man, more recently it appeared that Brauchli had weathered the transition comfortably. But Time seems to suggest that Brauchli was less comfortable than he let on, saying he "tried to find a middle path between the paper's traditionalists and Murdoch's new vision for the paper." Emphasis on the "tried," presumably.

Too bad for Newsweek that its own big story on the Journal is now obsolete. More on this tomorrow. □
