Krugman Repeats Bogus Clinton Health Care Tale
Would somebody please get Paul Krugman a subscription to his own paper?
On Friday, the New York Time op-ed econ-umnist led off his column with an anecdote that Hillary Clinton has used on the campaign trail to underscore the need for universal health care. The story is about a pregnant Ohio woman named Trina Bachtel, who allegedly died after a hospital refused to see her on account of unpaid bills.
One problem: The story wasn't true -- as the Times had reported six days earlier. Not only that, but it couldn't have been true, at least not legally, since hospital are required by federal law to treat sick patients regardless of non-payment or inability to pay.
Krugman acknowledged the mistake on his blog last night, but ended his climbdown by insisting, "Many people do in fact die from lack of insurance."
Now who's going to break it to him that there was no sniper fire on that Bosnian airport?
