-The Los Angeles Times has already apologized for claiming Sean "Diddy" Combs had a role in the 1994 shooting of Tupac Shakur, but now it's retracting the story entirely and removing it from the Web, presumably to placate Combs's lawyers. [LAT]

-Microsoft is threatening to go hostile with its takeover bid unless Yahoo comes to the bargaining table post haste. [Portfolio]

-An employee who handles IT security for Vanity Fair used to work for Anthony Pellicano, and was accused by Pellicano himself of wiretapping his boss and leaking an early draft of a story about Michael Ovitz. [NYT]

-USA Today founder Al Neuharth's alleged love child isn't a big fan of the Newseum. [P6]

-If Katie Couric sees herself as the Hillary Clinton of evening news, that clearly makes Charles Gibson its John McCain. That leaves Brian Williams to be Barack Obama. [WaPo]

-The F.C.C. has filed suit against News Corp., which is refusing to pay an indecency fine it drew for Married By America. [AP]
