Johnny Depp to Hawk Condoms? Um, No.

An early April Fool's Day prank, or just another shoddy bit of celebrity "news"? Either way, a spokeswoman for Johnny Depp says the many reports that the actor is considering a multi-million-dollar offer from Trojan to appear in an ad campaign for its Magnum-brand prophylactics are purest bogus.

"There is no truth to this," says the spokeswoman, Robin Baum. "He has not been approached."

Since it's only fair to note that Hollywood flacks, as a group, are batting less than a thousand on the veracity front, I put in a call to Trojan marketing chief Jim Daniels just to make doubly sure. I haven't heard back yet, but the smart money says this rumor (which may have originated in OK magazine, and has been kicking around the web for at least three weeks now) is just that and nothing more. Let it go, people ...
