Was This the Source of That 'Vogue' Cover?
The powder keg that is the controversy over Vogue's April cover may have found its spark.
Blogger Rogers Cadenhead has identified what he thinks may be the inspiration for Annie Leibovitz's photo of LeBron James and Gisele Bundchen -- and it features a pre-King Kong angry gorilla. Leibovitz has a well-known penchant for referencing preexisting artworks in her compositions.
That seems to bolster the claims of those who say Leibovitz was making a play on the stereotype of black men as menacing and animalistic.
Vogue has said very little about the photo other than that it celebrates "athleticism," and Leibovitz hasn't commented.
UPDATE: The ladies at Jezebel already spotted this one.
