Who Is 'Rolling Stone' Actually Endorsing?

Let's say you own and edit a major magazine. Let's also say you support a certain candidate for president of the United States of America -- the same candidate the vast majority of your readers, going by demographics, were probably already supporting.

Let's say this candidate has been somewhat bedeviled, in recent weeks, by claims that the press harbors a huge crush on him. Let's say many observers, including the candidate himself, attribute his recent losses in two very important nominating contests to the successful promulgation of this trope.

In this scenario, would you, the magazine owner, be helping or hurting your candidate of choice by portraying him on your cover, wreathed in a halo of heavenly light, next to the quasi-messianic cover line "A New Hope"?

I'd say hurting.
