'NY Times' TV Critic Embellishes Debate Drama

Alessandra Stanley, who has a well-deserved reputation for flubbing facts in her New York Times column, does it again today, enhancing the drama in last night's Democratic debate with the aid of a faulty memory.

Stanley recaps Hillary Clinton's line about "change you can Xerox" -- referring to Barack Obama's use of lines from a supporter's speech -- and then notes:

Mr. Obama smoothly pounced back on the plagiarism issue. "This is where we start getting into silly season in politics and the American people get discouraged," he said to vigorous applause. Mrs. Clinton's smile grew tighter.

A good story -- only Obama's retort was in response to moderator Campbell Brown's question, not to Clinton's one-liner, which came after Obama's "silly season" soliloquy.

See for yourself.
