Duly Quoted: Lelyveld on 'Times' Layoffs
"My basic reaction is, I'm glad I'm not there to have to go through this sort of thing."
-Former New York Times executive editor Joseph Lelyveld, when I asked him about the significance of yesterday's announcement that the paper's newsroom will lose around 100 employees this year, through attrition, buyouts and, possibly, layoffs. Lelyveld declined to comment further.
