No sooner had the new Tribune Co. owner completed his charm offensive -- a whirlwind, profanity-laced tour of newsrooms that was such a success, it left some staffers a little too eager to emulate their new boss -- than the pain started.
Today, Tribune announced it would slim its workforce by 2 percent, or up to 500 jobs. A large proportion of the positions eliminated -- between 100 and 150 -- will be at the Los Angeles Times -- which, as you may have read, is undergoing a wee crisis of editorial leadership to boot ...
