Idle Chatter: Yahoo, Diane Sawyer, Sam Zell...

-Yahoo's board will meet today to weigh MIcrosoft's $44.6 billion takeover offer. Meanwhile, Yahoo's biggest investor has been meeting with Microsoft to see if it can't jack up that price by a few billion. [Portfolio, NYP]

-Diane Sawyer stretched the truth quite a bit when she claimed her Good Morning America colleage Robin Roberts was walking, sans wig, in a "real" fashion show in front of "all the fashion critics." [WWD]

-Women's fashion magazines had an extremely tough time on the newsstand in second-half '07, particularly Marie Claire, which was down double-digits for the second year running. [WWD]

-Katharine Weymouth, a granddaughter of Katharine Graham, has been named publisher of the Washington Post. The paper has also announced plans to reduce staff through buyouts. [WaPo/NYP]

-The newspaper industry may be dying, but Sam Zell is going to make sure it goes out happy. In his latest stop on the Tribune Co. newsroom tour, he told Los Angeles Times reporters they can watch porn at work all day for all he cares. [Media Mob]
