Idle Chatter: Schieffer, Farnham, Friedman...
-Bob Schieffer, the Evening News anchor beloved for being neither Dan Rather nor Katie Couric, is retiring from CBS after almost 40 years. [NYT]
-Yahoo's laying off 1,000 employees. [Silicon Alley Insider]
-The editor in chief of Time Out New York, Brian Farnham, is leaving to join a web startup. (N.B. This news for some reason appears at the very bottom of the column, well below an item about a Conde Nast executive swearing off fish.) [WWD]
-Fortune International editor Robert Friedman is out. [NYP]
-As an employee of Rupert Murdoch, Fox News anchor Shepard Smith has to claim he prefers the New York Post to the Times or Daily News, but he doesn't have to pretend to mean it. [Daily Intel]
-Nick Denton thinks Barry Diller should forget about this whole internet thing. I daresay John Malone agrees. [Gawker]. □
