Brownridge Vs. Wenner: It Is So On

Remember that whole elaborate analogy Kent Brownridge laid out about how running a publishing company is like playing water polo, and it's demanding enough on its own without the added strain of taking cheap shots at other players under the water line?

Yeah, you can forget about that.

Whatever Brownridge may say, the rivalry between him and his old boss, Rolling Stone owner Jann Wenner, is a grudge match. And if it wasn't before, it became one yesterday with the hiring of Joe Levy to be editor in chief of Blender. Levy has been at Rolling Stone for a decade, most recently as executive editor.

"I don't look upon it as a raid," Brownridge tells a newspaper. "I'm pleased I got him and he just happens to work for Wenner."

Riiiiiight. As did James Kaminsky, whom Brownridge poached from Men's Journal in August to edit Maxim.

Let's just hope Jann was wearing his cup.
