Demure Dobbs Demands to be Drafted
Is Lou Dobbs playing hard to get, politically speaking?
I thought he'd put those rumors about an independent presidential campaign to bed when he told The Caucus, "I have no interest in running."
But in retrospect, that was a little too much like Al Gore's often-mocked "I'm not planning to run" formulation. Or at least so thinks The Wall Street Journal, which has a fresh story today about whether the immigrant-bashing CNN host will take a shot at the White House.
His denials this time around are even more watered-down.
"I haven't got the personality or nature to be a politician," he told the Journal, adding, "I cannot say never."
It's almost as if he's trying to whip people like William Gheen into a frenzy. Gheen is the president of Americans for Legal Immigration, a group dedicated to fixing the illegal-immigration "crisis." If Dobbs doesn't declare his candidacy soon, warns Gheen, "We will start gathering outside his office."
