Is Time Inc. in Susan Lyne's Exit Strategy?

Susan Lyne, the CEO of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, may be leaving soon, reports Keith Kelly in the New York Post. That's interesting on its own, but there's an even more interesting angle Kelly doesn't explore.

A former TV executive who revived ABC's fortunes by pushing Lost and Desperate Housewives, Lyne has been widely discussed as a possible successor to Ann Moore, whose contract runs out in 2010.

Lyne's own contract expired at the end of 2007, but a clause in it provides for an automatic one-year extension should the company fail to notify her of an intent not to renew it.

Of course, Lyne may no longer be seen as a viable candidate for the Time Inc. job. At the time her name first surfaced, MSLO shares were trading around $20. Now, they're worth less than $10.
