Idle Chatter: Zell, Storm, 'NYT' layoffs...

-CBS didn't cancel its debate because of strike worries -- but the Democratic National Committee did. Better luck next time, Katie. [LAT]

-One way or another, the F.C.C. will see to it that Sam Zell gets to take over Tribune Co. [LAT]

-Hannah Storm is stepping down as co-anchor of the CBS Early Show after five years. [Reuters]

-The New York Times is making its first newsroom job cuts in a long time, though the jobs affected aren't actually editorial. (You wouldn't know that from reading the Post, however.) [Media Mob]

-Editor Lori Majewski, who's sort of been kicking around Time Inc. since Teen People folded, is finally leaving. [Jossip]
