Fred Thompson on Fox: Why Do You Hate Me?
Fox News, conservative? Not in the eyes of Fred Thompson. While Fox News lavishes love on the pro-abortion and pro-gun-control Rudy Giuliani, Thompson thinks he's been getting nothing but knocks from the Rupert Murdoch-owned network, and he said as much on Fox News Sunday today.
Thompson lashed out after host Chris Wallace noted that other conservatives have criticized his presidential campaign as lackluster.
"This has been a constant mantra of Fox, to tell you the truth," Thompson shot back. "[F]or you to highlight nothing but the negatives in terms of the polls and then put on your own guys who have been predicting for four months, really, that I couldn't do it, kind of skews things a little bit. There's a lot of other opinion out there."
Indeed, Thompson only said what others, from Atlantic blogger Marc Ambinder to right-wing watchdog site Newsbusters, have been saying for months. Fox News commentators have poked fun at Thompson for everything from wearing Gucci shoes to riding a golf cart at a state fair to not pausing for his own applause lines.
Interestingly, Thompson seemed to regard Fox as friendly territory just a few months ago. In July, Hotline reported that he'd spent the second-most time of any candidate being interviewed on the network this year, after Rudy Giuliani. But that's changed: TVNewser recently crunched the numbers and found Thompson had made only 14 Fox appearances this year, placing him sixth among Republican candidates.
