The Takeaway: 'House & Garden' Folds
New York Post: House & Garden had lost "close to $100 million" for Conde Nast since it relaunched in 1996.
Wall Street Journal: H&G's then-publisher, Joe Lagani, "received an internal Conde Nast award for Turnaround of the Year in 2006." Conde president Chuck Townsend on how it went from hot turnaround to basket case in less than a year: "Frequently it boils down to leadership."
WWD: No wonder Lagani let things slide. He had told Townsend he wanted out in April.
Washington Post: Soho design-store owner Murray Moss guest-edited the January issue, which will never see daylight.
New York Times: Expect to see more shelter magazines folding, courtesy of the housing slump, and more magazines folding in general, courtesy of the internet. □
