Page Six Apologizes. Yes, Really.
Go buy a lottery ticket. The New York Post is actually apologizing for offending transgendered people with an item about the reality show There's Something About Miriam.
"[W]e erred yesterday in referring to a pre-op transsexual as 'a she-male' -- a term GLAAD informs us is 'a dehumanizing slur,'" reads the Page Six mea culpa. "We apologize to any and all we may have offended."
This even though, as I pointed out, even well-intentioned people might not recognize "she-male" as a derogatory term. (And yes, I did also say it's always easier to apologize, but that hasn't seemed to persuade the Post in the past.)
Considering Page Six editor Richard Johnson's initial response to GLAAD's complaint -- "You're kidding me, aren't you? I would have used 'chick with a dick' but we're as [sic] family newspaper" -- I'm wondering if perhaps the decision to beg forgiveness wasn't made at a higher level. Maybe next the Post will realize that not all gays are "flamboyant."
