WSJ-ers Cast Green Eye on Murdoch's Millions

For a staff that's supposedly utterly demoralized, those Wall Street Journal folks have sure been acting feisty. Today, the paper's Marketbeat blog takes a look at executive compensation -- specifically, the executives at News Corp., the Journal's brand-new owner.

It turns out chairman Rupert Murdoch received about $32.1 million in compensation for the year ending June 30, while president Peter Chernin got $34 million. Murdoch's compensation included $337,427 worth of personal travel on corporate jets; the aging mogul "is required to use company aircraft for safety reasons."

The Marketbeat item was triggered by the filing of a proxy statement, so it's only an amusing coincidence that it comes just as the Journal's union is mounting a campaign for higher pay with Murdoch's face and the slogan "Show Us The Money."
