Why Is Ingrassia Leaving the Journal?
Pity Paul Ingrassia. Like a bride at her wedding having to tell 100 different people where she'll be honeymooning, Ingrassia, who's leaving his post as vice president for news strategy at Dow Jones, is going to have to answer the same question 10 times a day for the next six months: "Come on...It was really about Murdoch, right?"
Ingrassia's own explanation—"There just didn't seem to be an appropriate place for me in the company"—leaves room for interpretation. As suggestive as the timing is, coming just two weeks after Dow Jones agreed to be acquired by News Corp., it could be that Ingrassia's just still smarting from being passed over for the managing editor job in favor of Marcus Brauchli.
Of course, Ingrassia probably also figured that Rupert Murdoch will be looking to bring in his own people (no doubt including Robert Thomson, widely rumored to be a shoo-in for publisher), not to find new roles for longtime Wall Street Journal hands without enough to keep them busy.
