Management-Speak, Mixed Metaphors Edition

Joseph Giannone, of Reuters, has a Q&A with UBS investment bank CEO Huw Jenkins up on the web today. There are excerpts at the Reuters blog, but if you want to read the whole thing you'll need to download a Word file. Most peculiar.

Jenkins is smart enough not to commit any news in the interview, but he does demonstrate a fine taste for mixed metaphors:

"We haven't been as lucky at backing the winning horse as we might have wished but like a lot of people in this business, you need a lot of at-bats before you actually get a hit."

"We don't want to lead with our chins and try to do too much in one bite."

By my count, that's four sports in two metaphors: horse racing, baseball, boxing, and, er, competitive eating? I'm just disappointed the Welsh Jenkins didn't get rugby in there somehow.
