"Wal-Mart" of Weed Welcomed to Washington

weGrow

The “Wal-Mart of Weed” is coming to the nation’s capital.

A store, weGrow, that sells equipment used in the indoor cultivation of marijuana, but not the plants, plans to open a location in the District of Columbia, the Washington Business Journal reports today. It’s the latest sign that medical-marijuana decriminalization is gaining traction in Washington, despite the federal government’s opposition and warnings that cultivation and sale of pot remains a federal crime.

The Business Journal reports:

The 2,500-square-foot store will feature a similar layout to weGrow’s West Coast retail stores and will provide a full array of products and services to medical-marijuana cultivators and indoor-gardening enthusiasts. The store is near the only Home Depot in D.C.

The store is expected to open in March. Right now, weGrow has stores in Sacramento and Oakland, California, and Phoenix, and plans to build further stores in California, Michigan, Delaware, and Arizona.

The District’s law, similar to others in states like California and Colorado, allows doctors to prescribe marijuana to relieve symptoms of glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS, and cancer.
