Democrat Blasts Blue Dogs

Here's another ominous sign for health care reform: Democrats are starting to snipe at each other.

In a call with reporters today, Rep. Pete Stark, a California Democrat, blasted the conservative wing of his party, the so-called Blue Dogs, saying "they just want to cause trouble" as far as coming to an agreement on health reform legislation, the Associated Press reports.

Stark, chairman of the Ways and Means health subcommittee, suggested in the call that Blue Dogs were working for insurance companies, who oppose key measures of a health reform plan.

"They're for the most part, I hate to say, brain dead," Stark said, referring to Blue Dogs. "They're just looking to raise money from insurance companies and promote a right-wing agenda that is not really very useful in this whole process."

The last thing President Obama needs is heated rivalries between legislators in his own party. The president already faces strong opposition from Republicans and growing distrust from voters.
