Public Support for Obama's Health Reform Hits New Low

There's more bad news for President Obama as he tries to win public support for his health reform.

Just 42% of U.S. voters - a new low - support the president's plan, a Rasmussen Reports survey shows. That's down 5 percentage points from two weeks ago, according to the pollster. Meanwhile, opposition to Obama's plan increased to 53%.

The survey results suggest negative publicity over health care reform is having an effect on public opinion. Attack advertising by various special interests, protests at congressional town hall meetings and Sarah Palin's widely reported Facebook warning of alleged government "death panels" appear to be influencing the public debate.

Perhaps most alarming for Democratic politicians who support the president: Almost half of seniors oppose the plan, the survey finds.
