Straight From the Artist's Mouth

This is Keith Tyson's Nature Painting (Red), which the artist donated to The (RED) Auction that Figure Painting has been writing about. Like all of Tyson's Nature Paintings, it was made by pouring paint and other materials onto an aluminum canvas and letting them settle where they may. Would this be the converse of Jackson Pollock's "action painting"? (i.e. passive painting) The result looks not unlike a Rorschach card in color, or a cross-section of some brilliantly colored agate. According to Sotheby's Oliver Barker, Tyson calls this the best Nature Painting he's done to date. It's estimated to fetch $150,000 - $200,000.
