Artworthy
Artworthy is a recurring feature that calls out exhibitions, fairs, and/or other art world events worth your precious free time. This weekend's picks...
If you're taste tends towards the Old Masters and you live in the Washington, DC area, Salomon van Ruysdael's Ferry on a River goes on view today at the National Gallery of Art. The New York Times' Carol Vogel has the back story on the museum's recent acquisition.
And if you're a Chelsea hopping contemporary art enthusiast, the second installment of the New Museum's inaugural exhibition on the Bowery opened this week with collages by 11 artists, including Mark Bradford, Thomas Hirschhorn, Wangechi Mutu, and Nancy Spero. Why collage? Because it speaks to "a contemporary world full of excessive imagery." Coming off the 2007 biennial/art fair circuit, Figure Painting expects this notion to resonate with the museum's audience.
